The Central Susquehanna Valley Thruway project is on track with $10.48 million in federal funds obtained by U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum and U.S. Rep. Don Sherwood , R-10, of Tunkhannock.

Fairchild asks for thruway funding

“This project is the keystone for improving safety and congestion as well as furthering economic development in central
Pennsylvania,” said Rep. Fairchild.  Rep. Fairchild and Rep. Merle Phillips have asked that $3.7 million be directed toward final design, right-of-way acquisition and utility relocation in the first four years.  Also  called for $199.3 million in construction funding to be spent on the project in the first four years of the 12-year plan.

The State Transportation Commission recently approved $8 million worth of projects to stimulate Pennsylvania 's rail-freight service, which includes over $1 million earmarked for companies in the Pennsylvania Business Central (PBC) coverage region.

Renovo Railroad Car Shops to Make Rail Cars Again

Renovo Rail Cars will soon begin making new rail cars and repairing used ones at the former Pennsylvania Railroad car shops — now Renovo Industrial Park .  Renovo Rail Car's main focus will be producing and repairing rail cars for the municipal, construction and demolition waste industries. According to Wes Grand, CEO of Clinton Economic Partnership, “So far, there's a $700,000 local investment in the project.  Local investors and local involvement were key components to make this project happen.”

$500,000 Grant - Airport to woo second carrier

Williamsport Regional Airport                                   Montoursville       Lycoming County

A $500,000 federal Dept of Transportation Grant  will "help the Williamsport Regional Airport expand its services and spur economic growth by connecting our citizens to a national aviation network,” said U.S. Rep. John E. Peterson .  The grant would be used to pay for financial incentives to air carriers, studies to determine air-service needs and marketing programs aimed at recruiting a carrier to provide service to Detroit.  No specific carrier was mentioned.
