Numerous power, water and telecommunications companies service various parts of Central Pennsylvania and are prepared to work with companies evaluating an expansion project in our region. The Public Utility Commission regulates and supervises the rates and service of the state's public utilities, including electricity, water, natural gas and telephone.
Electric Energy
Pennsylvania became one of the first states to provide supplier choice in electric generation when it launched its Electric Choice Program in 1999.
- Pennsylvania and California took fundamentally different approaches to deregulation, and they started from a different place because Pennsylvania has abundant capacity.
- Users across Pennsylvania have saved $2.8 billion, generation rates are capped for most of this decade, and companies that retained their own power plants are doing very well.
- More than 9,000 megawatts of new power plants are planned in Pennsylvania over the next few years.
- In our area, PPL Electric Utilities and First Energy are the two largest generation and transmission companies. By using the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's
Electric Choice program, you can choose from the one of the many electric suppliers in our area to handle your electricity needs.
Natural Gas
The Natural Gas Choice and Competition Act of 1999 also authorizes supplier choice in Pennsylvania.

Telecommunications
High speed and redundant telecommunications lines to our communities and industrial districts are commonly available. Multiple Internet Service Providers (ISP) serve the region, and advanced services such as ATM, SMDS, Frame Relay and ISDN are widely available. The Central PA Chambers' of Commerce Information Technology Committee was recently formed to encourage the installation of telecommunications technology infrastructure in our region.
