With all of our open spaces,
transportation moves swiftly and
travel times are rarely impacted
by delays. Our region is served
by an excellent highway network
with ready access to Pittsburgh
and Ohio to the west; New
Jersey, the Big Apple and
Philadelphia to the east; New
York State and Canada to the
north; and Washington and
Baltimore to the south. See our Regional Map for the
location of our interstates,
highways, rail lines, and
airports.
Highways
Main arteries are Interstate 80,
which connects our region to
both the east and west coast,
and US Routes 11 and 15 which
carries traffic north to south.
The planned connection of
Interstate I-99 in the
Williamsport area will increase
the Interstate access to our
region.

Current road
infrastructure improvement projects:
- The Central Susquehanna
Transportation Project is
bringing an alternative route,
adding another Susquehanna River
crossing and upgrading Route 15
to limited access for another 12
miles in Central Pennsylvania.
- The Susquehanna Beltway is
increasing access to the west of
Williamsport. The widening of
Routes 11-15 for 10.1 miles to a
four-lane limited access road is
creating better north-south
access for our region.

Many national and independent
trucking companies operate truck
load (TL) and less than truck
load (LTL) businesses from our
region. Companies receiving
materials and supplies as well
as shipping finished products on
to their customers are well
served by area trucking firms.
Rail
An extensive rail freight
network, including nearly 200
miles of rail line owned by the
SEDA-COG Joint Rail Authority

first-class short-line service
in making choices for product
shipment. Connections to Class
One railroads, including
Norfolk Southern and
Canadian
Pacific Rail, make rail shipments
an affordable and convenient
means to move goods in to, out
of and through Central
