There is an endless variety of things to see and do in our region. Whether it’s playing a game of golf at one of our 10 area golf courses, cheering on the teams at the annual Little League World Series in Williamsport; catching the professional Pittsburgh Pirates affiliate, The Williamsport Crosscutters baseball team, playing at historic Bowman Field; enjoying a show at the Weis Center for Performing Arts, the Community Arts Center, or the Alvania Krause Theatre; hiking in one of our beautiful state parks and other natural areas; finding fishing hot spots; or attending one of the many art and cultural events in the region, you will be hard pressed to decide among the many events and activities taking place in our region and surrounding areas. Two large shopping malls and charming downtown shopping districts await the savvy shopper, as well as many fun family-oriented recreational opportunities, like Knoebel’s Amusement Resort, enjoyed by the young and the young at heart. Many housing and rental properties are available in our region for sale or rent from modern to historical homes. When looking at specific communities, average home prices can range from $32,000 to $123,000, with an average vacancy rate of 9.8%. The region’s low crime rates and uncrowded atmosphere make it a pleasure to live in the area. Climate

We like to think of our four-season climate as “just right.” Our annual rainfall is around 40 inches and annual snowfall is around 41 inches. Our average high is a comfortable 60 degrees and our average low is around 40 degrees. We enjoy a pleasant climate for most of the year, with an average growing season of 180 days. Home gardening is enjoyed by many residents, and farming is an occupation and way of life for some in our region.
 

Health Care

The region has some exceptional high-quality health care institutions including the Susquehanna Health System, Evangelical Community Hospital, Sunbury Community Hospital, Lock Haven Hospital, and the Geisinger Medical Center. The Geisinger Center is one of the nation’s premier medical research institutions. Susquehanna Health System was recently named one of America’s “Top 100 Integrated Healthcare Networks” by Modern Healthcare Magazine, and also won the Global 1999 Best Practice Award by Arthur Anderson in the category of Exceeding Customer Expectations.
